HOW IT WORKS

How Project Big Things works.

Project Big Things is a field guide to the giant, the oversized and the gloriously unnecessary - the fibreglass fruit, enormous animals and roadside landmarks that a town built on purpose. Browse for free, no account needed. Sign in when you want to keep a private record of what you have found, and optionally share a little of it in public.
THE BASICS

The journey, start to finish

1
Explore Big Things
Search by name or place, or browse the map. Every listing is sourced and dated, and says plainly when something is unknown rather than guessing. No account is needed to browse.
2
Save things you want to visit
Add a Big Thing to Want to Visit and it waits for you in your Passport. This list is private, and sign in is only needed once you want to save something.
3
Record your visits
Recording a visit adds a Big Thing to your Passport as a private Find. It never requires your location, and it works just as well for a visit from years ago as one from this afternoon.
4
Verify a visit when you are actually there
Verify Here is a separate, optional Premium action for when you are standing at a Big Thing right now. It uses your location once to confirm you are on-site, then stays private unless you choose to publish it. See "What is the difference between Record visit and Verify Here?" below.
5
Build your Passport
Your Passport is where every Find, Location Stamp and collectible you have earned lives. It is private by default - there are no public travel profiles or leaderboards.
6
Take part in Challenges
Challenges are lists of Big Things to find, grouped by theme. Some are free to follow; the full library is part of Premium. Any Big Thing you have already recorded a visit to, including one you claim from the past, counts toward a Challenge you follow.
