ABOUT

A knowledgeable road-trip companion with a sense of fun.

Project Big Things is a field guide to the enormous, the oversized and the gloriously unnecessary – and a private way to collect the ones you have seen.
THE WHOLE IDEA
Never miss a Big Thing worth stopping for.
Somewhere along the road you are already driving, there is a giant piece of fruit, an enormous sheep or a fibreglass prawn that a town built on purpose. Most people drive past without knowing. This is the guide that tells you it is there, whether it is still standing, and where you can actually pull over.
Find them. Visit them. Collect them.
THE COMMUNITY, ON THE ROAD
See what people are adding
From the Road brings together recent public Visitor Logs and accepted community work without exposing anyone's private Visit history. It is a simple chronological pulse, not an engagement-ranked social feed.

HOW WE WORK

What you can expect from a listing

These are the rules the catalogue is built on, not marketing copy.
01
Say what we actually know
A listing publishes with its gaps visible. If we are not sure whether something is still standing, the page says so rather than guessing confidently.
02
Sources, not vibes
Records carry the sources they were built from. Records researched in depth also show the date they were last checked; where there is no date, the page says so.
03
Getting there safely matters
The place a Big Thing stands is not always somewhere you can lawfully stop. We research the arrival point separately and never send you to a set of coordinates just because they exist.
04
Illustration is never evidence
Where a photograph does not exist, artwork may stand in for identity – but it is always labelled as illustration and never used to claim what is there.
05
Your collection is yours
Visits, dates and notes are private by default. Public sharing is a separate, deliberate choice and never turns your Passport into a travel timeline.
06
Community observations are evidence
What you report is reviewed before it changes a public fact. Nobody edits the catalogue directly, including us, without a record of why.

Where we are up to

Project Big Things is built to work anywhere in the world, and the catalogue is researched market by market rather than scraped. Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand were researched first and are the most complete: each record there has a written story, its sources and the date it was last checked, and notes any gaps we know of. The United States, Canada and the United Kingdom are published at a lighter, listing-level standard, with a summary, practical notes and sources where we have them, and without a last-checked date or photographs yet. More countries will follow. Where a record is thin, the page says so. Regional guides, stories and routes are written and reviewed separately from the catalogue and are linked from the places they cover.
