FIELD GUIDE
The story
A red-and-white striped pole in Lincoln Park in Forest Grove, Oregon, was created in 1973, according to Roadside America, to honor the town as "Ballad Town USA", the connection being barbershop quartets singing ballads. Its listing says a sign on the pole notes that title.
A Discover Forest Grove visitor page, last updated in 2021, calls it the world's tallest barber pole and gives its height as 73 feet, while Roadside America lists 70 feet and a 2010 visitor tip says 72; none is an official measurement, and the title has not been independently verified.
