The story

Along Tualatin Valley Highway in Aloha stands a rabbit-headed giant that has stood beside the highway since the 1970s.
Harvey began as something else. Oregon news reports say the figure was a Texaco Big Friend, a gas-station attendant statue of a type related to the Muffler Man, damaged in a storm and brought to Ed Harvey, a fibreglass expert who ran Harvey Marine. KOIN in 2018 named the Columbus Day storm of 1962 and said the owner never returned for it. The Hillsboro News Times in 2017 reported the company's account that the statue arrived in 1969 and was installed outside the shop in 1974, with the rabbit head added later. KOIN instead dates the rabbit head and the mascot to 1974, and Portland Monthly says the early 1970s.
