FIELD GUIDE
The story
The Heaven Hill Bourbon Experience in Bardstown, Kentucky, has a giant barrel at its centre. Visit Bardstown, the local tourism office, wrote in August 2025 of a '270-degree projection theater located in what is believed to be the world's largest bourbon barrel'. The wording is hedged, and no measured size was found, so the record is a belief rather than a verified fact. Heaven Hill's own release announcing the grand opening of the Bourbon Experience, dated 14 June 2021, says the iconic tasting rooms are 'Positioned around a larger-than-life barrel' overlooking its main campus of rickhouses, and that 'guests will join their bourbon host in the barrel for a wide-screen video' about how barrels are made. The barrel is therefore part of the visit to the attraction, not a separate monument to be seen from the road.
