The story

Swampy is not a live alligator but a building. Islands.com reported in September 2025 that it is a 200-foot-long structure welcoming visitors to a jungle-themed zoo in Christmas, Florida, and called it the "Largest Gator". The site said the zoo was originally known as Gator Jungle and that Herman Brooks built it in 1969, and that visitors can photograph themselves in Swampy's jaw on the way out.
Bay News 9 described the entrance in February 2025 as an iconic cement alligator, "maybe 200-foot", marking Jungle Adventures, a real Florida animal park off State Road 50. The station quoted curator Ryan Brown saying the park has been open to the public since the 1950s, which differs from the 1969 date given by Islands.com. Bay News 9 also described a jungle cruise through natural waterways and a 1,000-pound, 15-foot gator nicknamed Goliath.
