FIELD GUIDE
The story
Twistee Treat sells soft-serve ice cream from buildings shaped like ice-cream cones. The company describes them as 25-foot-tall fiberglass cone buildings, and the first cone-shaped stores were built in North Fort Myers, Florida, in the early 1980s.
The Curry Ford Road stand has a place in the chain's revival. Wikipedia says the Orlando-based Twistee Treat USA acquired the rights in 2010 and began building new stores. RoadsideArchitecture.com, a hobbyist guide to such buildings, says the Curry Ford Road stand opened in 2010 as the first modern building, though the same site's first page puts the opening of the first Twistee Treat USA store in 2011.
