FIELD GUIDE

The story

Wat Dhammararam is a Cambodian Buddhist temple in southeast Stockton, California. In a blog post dated 5 May 2025, Visit Stockton, the city's tourism body, describes "the remarkable collection of statues peppered throughout the temple grounds," each with a unique story of the Cambodian Buddha. The post says the temple is near Highway 99 on Carpenter Road in a residential neighborhood, that monks and temple members are constantly renovating it with donations and state grant money, and that small metal boxes beside most statues accept donations. A separate, undated Visit Stockton page counts over 90 statues and describes a reclining Buddha, giving its length as 50 feet in one place and 54 feet in another, so the length is best treated as roughly 50 to 54 feet. The blog asks visitors to respect temple rules, to take off shoes and hat before entering the temple, and to be respectful of monks' meal times.
