This Big Thing is recorded as still being here.
'Wake' is a 21-foot-tall wooden sculpture by artist Mel Chin, evoking a shipwreck's bones fronted by a female figurehead modeled on 19th-century opera singer Jenny Lind, referencing the historical slave-trading clipper ship USS Nightingale. Installed at Historic Fourth Ward Park on the Atlanta BeltLine's Eastside Trail (overlooking the Fourth Ward Skate Park) as part of Art on the Atlanta BeltLine, the piece previously stood in Times Square for two months in 2018 and toured North Carolina and Texas before being anchored in Atlanta, deliberately oriented toward the birth home of Martin Luther King Jr. on Auburn Avenue.
