This Big Thing is recorded as still being here.
'Naw'-tsiʿ: Bear Effigy Vessel' is a 10-foot-tall, 6-foot-wide iron sculpture by Caddo Nation artist Chase Kahwinhut Earles, depicting on a monumental scale a traditional Caddo effigy pottery form: a bear standing on its hind legs holding a fish. Installed December 2022 on the Atlanta BeltLine's Eastside Trail in front of Ponce City Market as part of Art on the Atlanta BeltLine, it is described as the first major Indigenous-artist-created monument in Atlanta since the Indian Removal Act of the 1820s, reviving a nearly-extinct Caddo pottery tradition dating to 800 AD.
