The Sutton County Safety Rest Area on I-10 near Sonora, Texas, features picnic-table shelters roofed with giant wagon-wheel-shaped structures, built as part of a 1960s Texas Department of Transportation effort to design regional-heritage-themed rest stops. Each roof structure uses the spoked-wheel motif at a scale far exceeding a real wagon wheel (roughly 4-5 ft in diameter) in order to span and shade a picnic table. Separate rest areas serve eastbound and westbound I-10 traffic near milepost 394-395, west of Sonora.
