FIELD GUIDE
The story
Twistee Treat sells soft-serve ice cream from buildings shaped like ice-cream cones. The company describes them as 25-foot-tall fiberglass cone buildings, and the first cone-shaped stores were built in North Fort Myers, Florida, in the early 1980s. After the first companies ran into financial trouble, a new company, Twistee Treat USA, acquired the rights in 2010 and began building new stores, according to Wikipedia.
This stand is at 2394 SW College Road in Ocala; the company lists a second Ocala store on SW Highway 200. RoadsideArchitecture.com, a hobbyist guide to such buildings, says the modern cone building on SW College Road has been there since around 2015. Ocala-News.com described the store in September 2026 as next to a new Raising Cane's that opened in Ocala earlier that year.
