FIELD GUIDE
The story
The first of the Enchanted Highway’s sculptures to be built was a welded scrap-metal family of three, built by a man who had never welded before.
The Tin Family stands on the 32-mile highway that runs from Exit 72 on Interstate 94 south to Regent. North Dakota Tourism bills it as the World’s Largest Tin Family and says it was the first of the highway’s sculptures, giving the father’s height as 45 feet, the mother’s as 44 and the son’s as 23. An archived Prairie Public Dakota Datebook piece instead describes forty-foot figures.
