Florence Baptist Temple commemorated its 50th anniversary with The Sower, a bronze figure scattering seed, 19 feet tall on its granite pedestal.

Sculptor Alex Palkovich's website says the work was commissioned for the church's fiftieth anniversary. The church describes him as a member of the National Sculpture Society. According to the church, the sower was chosen as the biblical figure that best represented its history and would challenge it to stay focused on its mission; it says it is "not just building a memorial for the past" but "casting a vision for the future". The church also says the garden around the statue depicts the soils of the parable, with a sidewalk, gravel path, encircling roses and grass and flowers.
