The story
The Igloo in Everett, Bedford County, is an ice cream shop in a dome that looks more like a sundae than an igloo. According to the Altoona Mirror in April 2026, H&R Enterprises built the dome in 1977 as a showpiece for modular homes. After the concept and the company failed, the building was bought and sold many times. It became an ice cream shop in 1994 under the name Bill and Fred's Ice Cream Emporium, and the Mirror reported the present owners had run it for 30 years, since 1996. In April 2026 the shop made national television when a $400 clue in the Novelty Architecture category on Jeopardy! read, "Everett, Pennsylvania is home to an ice cream shop named for these dome structures but actually shaped like a sundae." All three contestants missed it. The Mirror said the owners also run a box-shaped shop in New Paris. It is a working business, so a visit is as much about ice cream as architecture.
