The Tallywood Tower, a 60-foot-tall, futuristic mid-century sculptural sign designed by William Baron and erected in the early 1960s, rises above Raeford Road at the Tallywood Shopping Center in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Fifteen pairs of slender steel columns stand in a circle, rising and twisting together to a crown of back-lit plastic tiles spelling out 'TALLYWOOD.' Originally meant to draw visitors when the shopping center was on the outskirts of town, it has become an enduring, iconic symbol of the surrounding neighborhood's mid-century-modern identity.
