FIELD GUIDE

The story

Plant City calls itself the Winter Strawberry Capital of the World, and its water tower is painted to match. Roadside America describes the municipal tower as "a bulbous design painted to resemble a huge strawberry," at the corner of North Wilder Road and East Cherry Street on the city's northeast side.
Bay News 9 reported in September 2013 that the city had awarded a $411,000 contract to repaint three faded towers, including this 500,000-gallon one seen from I-4. The strawberry paint scheme had been applied "years ago," the station said, in recognition of the city's status as a strawberry capital.
