FIELD GUIDE

The story

A stone circle made largely of plaster stands beside the Guadalupe River in Ingram, and it has been moved once and came through the July 2025 flood undamaged. Stonehenge II began as an art project by Al Shepperd, a Hill Country Arts Foundation (HCAF) patron, and his neighbour Doug Hill on Shepperd's land in Hunt, Texas. HCAF says it took nine months to build. CultureMap, quoting signage at the site, reported that a leftover limestone slab started the idea and that the other stones are steel, metal lathe and plaster anchored in cement; it dates the build to 1989. Two Easter Island head replicas, 13 feet tall according to HCAF, were added later.
Proportions are given both ways. HCAF says the circle is 90 per cent of the original's height and 60 per cent of its width; CultureMap and Texas Co-op Power say 90 per cent as wide and 60 per cent as tall. Texas Co-op Power counted 30 interlocking arches around five free-standing ones, all 8 to 12 feet tall.
