Three large industrial storage tanks at the C.S. Steen's Syrup Mill in downtown Abbeville are painted bright yellow to resemble the company's iconic Steen's 100% Pure Cane Syrup can label. Steen's has produced cane syrup in Abbeville since 1910, when founder Charley Steen began boiling down a salvaged frozen sugar-cane crop; the mill relocated to its current site on the banks of Bayou Vermilion by 1930. By the 1950s the yellow can became a household symbol of South Louisiana.
