A 12-foot monument by renowned Cajun artist George Rodrigue (creator of the 'Blue Dog' paintings), depicting the poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow alongside the reunion of star-crossed lovers Evangeline and Gabriel from Longfellow's 1847 poem 'Evangeline,' which tells of Acadian lovers separated during the 1755 expulsion from Nova Scotia. Rodrigue created the sculpture in Italy in the early 1980s and had it shipped to Acadiana, where it now stands on Asma Boulevard off Kaliste Saloom Road, Lafayette.
