The story

The Portsmouth Cultural Arts District's public art catalog says artist Craig Gray sculpted the whale in 2009 and donated it through Support Portsmouth Public Art, together with a donor family. According to both organisations it was installed at this corner in 2019. The catalog adds that it joined Portsmouth's Civic Art Collection, the city's body of publicly owned artwork.
