The story

Randy's Donuts is a working doughnut shop in Inglewood with a giant doughnut on its roof, and ABC7 calls its rooftop donut a SoCal landmark featured in many movies and shows. The shop stands at the corner of Manchester Boulevard and La Cienega Boulevard, and Time Out described it in November 2025 as the Inglewood flagship "crowned by its giant doughnut".

The Los Angeles Conservancy says the building was completed in 1953 and was reportedly designed by Henry J. Goodwin as the second of ten locations in Russell C. Wendell's Big Donut Drive-In chain, which no longer exists. Time Out and ABC7, in 2025, say Randy's opened its first shop in Inglewood in 1952. According to the Conservancy, the shop took the name Randy's in the mid-1970s.

The doughnut itself is built of rolled steel bars covered in gunite, a sprayed concrete. The Conservancy says structural engineer Richard Bradshaw, who also worked on the LAX Theme Building, is said to have designed it; Inglewood public art notes say the same. Spectrum News reported in 2021 that it is concrete and steel and weighs "upwards of 15,000 pounds". Fox LA quoted the owner in 2024 referring to the "famous 40-foot rooftop donut".

The rooftop ring has been dressed up more than once. CBS Los Angeles reported in 2015 that it was covered to look like a red faucet handle for a water conservation campaign, after being turned into a giant L.A. Kings hockey puck in 2014. Spectrum News says Robert Downey Jr. lounged inside it in Iron Man 2, and that newer rooftop donuts on the company's other shops are built by the San Pedro Electric Sign Co.

Randy's is a business, and the shop serves customers during its own opening hours.
