FIELD GUIDE
The story
Holbrook lies near Petrified Forest National Park, and Roadside America calls the dinosaurs outside the Rainbow Rock Shop the town's tightest and most impressive cluster: seven brontosauruses, two T. rex, a stegosaurus, a triceratops and several baby dinos on a small concrete patio.
According to Roadside America, shop owner Adam Luna built them all. His son Daniel said the first, a mid-size brontosaurus, went up in 1986 and the last was finished around 2000. Adam had no formal art training; he built a steel skeleton, covered it with rebar netting and coated it in concrete. The site says the tallest stand 25 feet high, and Daniel said the friendly smiles were meant not to frighten children.
