FIELD GUIDE

The story

A silver spaceship seems to have landed beside Route 8 north of Butler, Pennsylvania, and it turns out to be a toy store. Visit PA describes Playthings Etc. as Butler's silver spaceship-shaped toy store, and the shop calls itself the world's coolest toy store.
The building was a family project. According to Experience Butler County, Todd and Nadine Shingleton worked with their soon-to-be son-in-law, Allen, to design, build and create the store. Nadine Shingleton says Todd wanted to build a toy store that carried things nobody else carried, so he designed the building as a destination; kids call it "the spaceship store." The Butler Eagle says the store opened on October 1, 2005. A 2014 post on the Uncovering PA blog described the shape as a B-2 stealth bomber, or something built to look like one; the owners' own description is the spaceship.
