The story
A water tower painted as a giant beach ball is described by the Pensacola Beach tourism website as standing in the Casino Beach parking lot. The website says it has not been in use for over a decade, yet "the mere talk of dismantling it would cause an uprising amongst locals and visitors alike."
The community encyclopedia Pensapedia says the Santa Rosa Island Authority voted 5 to 1 on March 9, 2005 to keep the tower, and that the Emerald Coast Utilities Authority sold it to the Island Authority for $1 in February 2007.
