This Big Thing is recorded as still being here.
A single-log carving of Paul Bunyan with Babe the Blue Ox, hand-carved by Burlwood Industries from one redwood log 22 feet long and 12 feet in diameter, weighing 28,000 lbs and reportedly over 1,000 years old. Dedicated July 9, 1988 by the Westwood Area Chamber of Commerce for the town's 75th anniversary, commemorating the Walker family's 1913 relocation of their Red River Lumber Company (and the Paul Bunyan advertising character it popularized) from Minnesota to found the mill town of Westwood in the northern Sierra Nevada.
