This Big Thing is recorded as still being here.
Pal's Sudden Service, a Tri-Cities-area fast-food chain, is known for its distinctive giant fiberglass sculptures of a hotdog, hamburger, fries, and drink perched atop a teal-tiled patchwork roof design -- an idea sketched by artist Tony Barone for founder Pal Barger. The sculptures, produced by a manufacturer in Elizabethton, Tennessee, adorn roughly 30 Pal's locations in and around the Tri-Cities region, including the Gate City, Virginia location at 165 Kane Street, the chain's seventh restaurant, opened in 1991.
