The story

Strange Carolinas reported in June 2016 that a large concrete shark formed the entrance to Pacific Beachwear on U.S. 17 in North Myrtle Beach: to enter the store, customers walked through the shark's mouth. The blog attributed the sculpture to Bob Duato, a sculptor the blog credits as likely responsible for giant mouths that serve as beachwear entrances in the Carolinas, and said visitors liked being photographed inside the mouth.
Duato told the same blog in an interview that he builds his sculptures on a welded rebar frame filled with concrete, and a 2024 Sun News profile said he built both vertical and horizontal sharks in North Myrtle Beach, and reported in April 2024 that shoppers could still enter through one of his vertical shark mouths at Pacific Beachwear on Old Highway 17 North. A Roadside America visitor tip from November 2015 also places a shark entrance at Pacific Beachwear.
