FIELD GUIDE

The story

Mutt stands at the junction of Hughenden's main roads, life-size, and he is a local rather than a generic dinosaur.
Muttaburrasaurus langdoni was found at Muttaburra, a few hours south, in 1963. It mattered immediately: at the time of its discovery it was the most complete dinosaur fossil found in Australia, and the first to be cast and mounted, which made it the animal that Australian museum visitors actually met. For a country whose dinosaur record had been mostly fragments, that was a significant moment.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Mutt is a long-standing outdoor dinosaur landmark at the junction of the town’s principal roads and forms part of Hughenden’s prehistoric trail.
ACCESS
Mutt stands in the Stansfield Street/Gray Street public median. For a simple visitor arrival, use the Flinders Discovery Centre at 37 Gray Street and walk about 110 metres to the sculpture rather than trying to stop beside the median itself.
