FIELD GUIDE
The story
Putt past a nod to Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel ceiling, a Banksy tribute and a Piet Mondrian hole, all made by artists who work on a campus that was once a prison. Masterpiece Mini-Golf is an 18-hole course on the Workhouse Arts Center campus at 9518 Workhouse Way, Lorton, Virginia, where each hole honours an artist or movement, from Claude Monet and the Italian Renaissance to Frida Kahlo and guerrilla art.
The Workhouse opened to the public in September 2008 on part of the former Lorton Reformatory, which D.C. closed in 2001, FFXnow reported. Foundation president and CEO Keith Gordon, who arrived in July 2024, told the outlet he wanted something interactive that would keep families on the campus longer.
