FIELD GUIDE

The story

A man in a shallow pool hugs an enormous fish that sprays water from its mouth. Man with Fish, by the German sculptor Stephan Balkenhol, was installed in 2001 beside the southwest entrance to the Shedd Aquarium in Grant Park on Chicago's Museum Campus. According to the Chicago Park District it was a gift to the aquarium from William N. Sick in honour of his wife, Stephanie.
The Park District describes the work as painted bronze, with water dripping from the fish's mouth into a reflecting pool whose floor carries colourful sea-life imagery. Art@Site, a public-art guide, lists it as 16 feet tall.
