FIELD GUIDE
The story
A dozen stainless steel lotus petals, each 12 feet tall, rise from sloping mounds of earth on Wooded Island in Jackson Park, on the ground where a Japanese pavilion stood until it was destroyed by arson in 1946.
Yoko Ono's Sky Landing was dedicated on 17 October 2016. The Chicago Park District calls it her first permanent public artwork in the Americas; at the dedication Mayor Rahm Emanuel called it "the largest installation by Yoko Ono in the world". It was a partnership between the Park District and the nonprofit Project 120.
