The story

Man o' War, who won 20 of 21 races, is commemorated by a bronze statue by sculptor Herbert Haseltine at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington. The park describes it as a majestic bronze sculpture and memorial at his grave site, in a place of honor near the entrance to the park; War Admiral is buried alongside him. Keeneland Library holds a photograph dated 16 October 1948 of the statue at Faraway Farm, the horse's home, where it stood on a green marble base in his paddock, surrounded by a 10-foot-wide moat, with a walkway lined by 30 hornbeam trees, one for each year of his age at death. The library says the bronze moved to the Kentucky Horse Park in 1977. Thoroughbred Heritage says the park was built in the 1970s and that the decision to move the statue and the horse's remains came despite some public outcry, and that it was felt to be in keeping with the owner's intent that the gravesite remain available to the public.
