FIELD GUIDE

The story

A fibreglass mallard with a wingspan of more than seven metres stands in Mallard Park in Petersfield, in Manitoba's Interlake region. The Manitoba Historical Society lists it as the Mallard Duck Monument, in the Rural Municipality of St. Andrews.
Interlake Tourism says residents of the Netley Lake and Marsh area wanted a mascot that truly represented their home, and that it seemed only fitting to commemorate the mallard with its own statue at Petersfield's Mallard Park. A 2018 Winnipeg Regional Real Estate News feature says the mallard was chosen partly because of the community's closeness to Netley Marsh.
