A classic giant fiberglass 'muffler man' figure on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, originally installed as a Hamburger Man at a Fosters Freeze -- palms up, holding a giant hamburger. When La Salsa took over the site in the 1980s, artist Bob Wade reworked the same fiberglass figure: the hamburger's top bun became the brim of a sombrero, the bottom bun became a tray of Mexican food, and paint, a mustache and a serape were added, turning it into 'El Salsero,' the La Salsa Man. The figure -- one of the roughly 180 surviving muffler men descended from Bob Prewitt's original Lawndale, California design -- still stands at the site today.
