FIELD GUIDE

The story

King Buck is a 12-foot white-tailed deer that, in Interlake Tourism's words, "has been ruling Poplarfield since 1991". Interlake Tourism lists it among 13 statues in the Interlake region of Manitoba and places it at the corner of Highway 68 and Highway 17.
The Manitoba Historical Society (MHS) says the statue was placed in 1991 in a small park at Poplarfield, in the Rural Municipality of Fisher, and names the sculptor as Wayne Arthur (1943-1999). Interlake Tourism presents the figure as a tribute to the white-tailed deer, and its entry links hunting to "our pioneer ancestors", as a source of food and as a sport.
