FIELD GUIDE

The story

Kadie the Cow, a 20-foot fiberglass cow, spent more than half a century at the same site off Manchester Expressway before Columbus moved her to the riverfront. Visit Columbus says she weighs 2,300 pounds and is the official cow of Columbus, Georgia.
She has stood in the city since 1967. Best Buy later wrote that the site off Manchester Expressway was then home to a dairy plant, and Visit Columbus says she served as a mascot outside Kinnett Dairies, which relocated in the early 2000s. Local activism kept her on the site as the property became a Best Buy. When the store announced in 2019 that it would move, Best Buy said it had signed an easement with the city so she could stay, and gave her a makeover; the city declared 9 June 2019 Kadie the Cow Day.
