FIELD GUIDE
The story
The Guardian summed up Tulsa's Jetsons house in 2022 as a wheel on its side perched on a stick: a round, windowed living area lifted high above the ground, with an elevator running up a 44-foot tube. The nickname comes from its resemblance to the home in the cartoon The Jetsons.
The house was completed in 2005 by its builder, a local resident with a welding business who built it in his free time. A Tulsa architect told the Guardian that the builder brought him the concept and that he laid it out for him scale-wise; a structural engineer approved the design. The builder died in 2019 at 78.
