FIELD GUIDE

The story

Two large steel hands stand in front of a working veterinary clinic on the LSU campus in Baton Rouge. In July 2024 LSU announced the installation of In Our Hands, a sculpture by DiBari & Associates, outside the Stephenson Pet Clinic at the School of Veterinary Medicine on Skip Bertman Drive, between the Mississippi River and Tiger Stadium.
According to LSU, it is 16 feet tall, 18 feet wide and about 3,800 pounds. The powder-coated steel piece is hollow and reinforced, made from metallic outlines welded to additional profiles to give thickness, with beams extending deep into the concrete base. Sculptor Vito DiBari said the two hands represent the school’s dedication to improving and safeguarding the lives of animals and humans through education, research and compassionate care. He said the aim was for the piece to become a landmark honouring the school, its mission and its community.
