This Big Thing is recorded as still being here.
A 9-foot fiberglass strawberry, unveiled in 2018 for Ponchatoula's annual Strawberry Festival, stands across from City Hall on West Hickory Street. Built from 25 gallons of fiberglass resin and adorned with 120 seeds, it was designed by sculptor and movie-prop builder Valek Sykes; the idea came from Middendorf's Restaurant owner Karen Pfeifer, inspired by a similar landmark she had seen in Germany, and funded by local businesses in partnership with the mayor's wife. Ponchatoula styles itself the 'Strawberry Capital of Louisiana.'
