FIELD GUIDE

The story

A slice of stadium bleachers, 17 metres (50 feet) tall, overlooks Empire Fields in Hastings Park and is designed to be climbed. CTV News calls it a "stairway to nowhere". Global News described it in July 2024 as having 16 rows of seating and as designed to be climbed and used as seating, supporting 49 people.
The artists are Annie Han and Daniel Mihalyo, who are based in Seattle. The fields are the site of the former Empire Stadium, which Global News describes as home of the BC Lions and a venue that hosted acts including the Beatles. Global News quotes Mihalyo: "Home + Away was inspired directly by the site history of spectatorship".
