This Big Thing is recorded as still being here.
"Harvest of Progress" is a 16-foot-tall, two-ton bronze sculpture of two giant figures fused back-to-back at the spine, standing atop a roughly 4-foot pedestal in the middle of a traffic roundabout at N. Central Ave. and 6th St. in downtown Tracy, California. One giant, facing east, is a farmer holding a shock of wheat; the other, facing west, is a railroad conductor holding an oil lantern -- together honoring Tracy's agricultural and railroad ('Tank Town') heritage at the historic 'bow-tie' rail confluence. It was sculpted by Lodi-area artist Rowland Cheney using lost-wax casting, selected from 29 competing proposals, and dedicated December 17, 2013. It is cited as one of the largest free-standing bronze statues in Northern California.
