FIELD GUIDE

The story

Guardian of Route 66 is the newer of two large sculptures by Gregg Arnold at Antares Point, the former Ranchero Motel site on Route 66 northeast of Kingman. Arnold is also known for the Giganticus Headicus tiki sculpture.
According to Route 66 News in November 2021, Arnold took the cover off the 16-foot-tall statue shortly after noon on a Saturday, with more than 100 people watching, as part of the grand opening of the Antares Point Visitors Center and Gift Shop. The site is the former Kozy Corner Trailer Court and Ranchero Motel property. The same report says Arnold cleaned up the property and remodelled the main A-frame building in 2020, after Grand Canyon Caverns gave up a lease in 2019.
