FIELD GUIDE
The story
On a two-mile curve of old Route 66, which Explore Kingman calls the longest continuous curve on a U.S. highway, a head 14 feet tall looks out over passing traffic, part tiki and part Easter Island moai.
Giganticus Headicus was made by local artist Gregg Arnold at Antares Point, formerly the Kozy Corner Trailer Court and the Ranchero Motel. Explore Kingman dates it to 2003 and 2004, while Route 66 News and Silly America say 2004. KTAR reported in 2013 that it is made of metal, wood, chicken wire, Styrofoam and cement and is spiked into the ground. Arnold, a certified welder, told KTAR that the Andy Warhol Diaries inspired him and that he had never sculpted until he came to the site. Silly America says he bought the property in 2000.
