Goony Golf Dinosaur

Rex, a roughly 20-foot concrete dinosaur, has watched Beach Boulevard in Jacksonville since the 1960s, long after the mini-golf course he decorated closed. The Coastal reported in 2017 that he was built at a Goony Golf course, part of a miniature-golf chain that once boasted over 35 locations nationwide. According to the magazine, he sat at the end of one hole beside the road, and twin dinosaurs stood at other Goony Golf sites, most of which have since been torn down. The course closed down just prior to the turn of the millennium.

Ash Properties took over the site and converted it into a small strip of commercial space. The Coastal says no other location proved suitable for the dinosaur, so he stayed where he had stood for decades. In 2007 the University of North Florida's Building Construction Management department gave him a new coat of bright orange paint and sanded down some rough edges, and the magazine noted his red eyes still glowed along the boulevard.
