The story
In March 2023 MySA described a giant slice of cherry pie above the Texas Pie Company on West Center Street in downtown Kyle: a "hulking slice of cherry pie" on a table-sized yellow plate, sitting atop the shop's green building. The newspaper said people drive far and wide to photograph it, and the owner told it the sign had become iconic, with thousands of pictures posted online.
According to MySA, the owner moved the business from Austin to Kyle in April 2000. The newspaper dates the sign to 2013, made by Kyle sign firm Great Big Signs with state downtown restoration funds. An earlier trade article, in Signs of the Times in July 2006, described a 3-by-6-foot cherry pie slab that the same firm made for the shop.
