The story

A bicycle chainring, enlarged until you can stand inside it and be photographed.
The frame sits on the Karāpiro section of the Waikato River Trails, and current visitor material identifies it as a trail-side photo feature tied directly to cycling identity. It is a photo frame rather than a sculpture – an object whose entire purpose is to have people inside it.

ACCESS
The Giant Bicycle Chainring Frame is a trail-side photo frame beside the Waikato River on the Karapiro section of the Waikato River Trails, sitting at the southern end of the Huihuitaha Wetland boardwalk, just before Little Waipa Reserve. The official Waikato River Trails site and a community trail pin (February 2024) both place it here, at approximately -38.0439, 175.6600; PBT treats that as an approximate object point, and there is no vehicle access to the frame itself. The closest official, lawful vehicle arrival is the Little Waipa Reserve carpark (873/875 Horahora Road, Arapuni) -- a South Waikato District Council reserve with toilets, BBQ facilities and freedom camping -- about 1.6km away along the trail. The Pokaiwhenua Bridge Carpark on Horahora Road, the official northern trailhead of the Karapiro section, remains a valid alternative but is roughly 6.7km away in a straight line and further by trail.
