FIELD GUIDE

The story

A bright pink tree on a small hill is the unexpected centrepiece of a half-acre downtown park in Boise, and it has swings.
Matthew Mazzotta's Gentle Breeze stands in Cherie Buckner-Webb Park, on a corner that was a private surface parking lot before the City of Boise and the Capital City Development Corporation turned it into a park. Boise City Council approved Mazzotta's selection in December 2019. He held an "outdoor living room" session in January 2020 to gather opinions, then offered two design concepts; of nearly 200 comments gathered in a later public survey, a majority favoured Gentle Breeze.
