FIELD GUIDE
The story
Lorado Taft's Fountain of Time puts a hundred people on the move past a hooded figure who simply watches them go.
The Chicago Park District calls it the masterpiece of the sculptor and one of Chicago's most significant historic artworks. It stands at the east end of the Midway Plaisance, in Washington Park. A cloaked Father Time looks across a reflecting basin at a wavelike procession: babies and children at the eastern end, soldiers, workers and lovers in the centre, and the most elderly figures at the western end. EverGreene, the conservation firm, puts the procession at 120 feet long.
