FIELD GUIDE

The story

Stonehenge is not a monument that normally travels, but its foam twin has done so, and it now lives on a working farm in northern Virginia.
Foamhenge is the work of the artist Mark Cline of Enchanted Castle Studio. The Richmond Times-Dispatch described it in 2016 as a beaded-foam reproduction of Stonehenge that Cline created as an April Fools’ stunt in 2004. A Guardian writer reported in 2015 that it was erected on 31 March 2004 and partly covered in black plastic for an April Fools’ Day unveiling. It stood on a hillside off U.S. 11 north of Natural Bridge, Virginia.
